Flowers really are cheaper than therapy: the science behind our love of blooms

It's true, you've felt it yourself, right? The difference it makes having flowers in your home or place of work. You feel ....happier, lighter, better. Well, there's science to back up those feelings.

The Emotional Impact Of Flowers study by Jeannette M. Haviland-Jones, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, Project Director, Human Development Lab at Rutgers, found that not only does receiving flowers give an immediate upswing in happiness but the effects last, with  a positive sense of well being and an increased sense of connection with family and friends. A similar study by Rutgers has also shown that seniors experience less depression, increased memory strength and greater sense of community when exposed to flowers in their daily lives.

Another study, "The Impact of Flowers on Perceived Stress Among Women"  this one from the University of Florida, found that having flowers in your home significantly decreases your stress level.

That's why we started our weekender posies, the small but sweet bunches of our favourites of the week that we sell at the shop as grab and go bouquets- because we want you to get that feeling of happy in your life. Try it, swing by and pick up a posy or even just a simple bloom to pop in a budvase and take note of how much better you feel.
