Current obsession: Delphiniums

Blue is elusive in the world of flowers. Summer gives us our blue fix easily in delphinium form. 
These tall green stems are covered in individual flowers that vary in colour from white, through pale blue, a perfect periwinkle blue, into lavender and deep purple. These elegant perennial  blooms can grow to 6 feet tall in garden beds.

While these flowers are gorgeous in their entirety, it is the up close detail that entrances me.  Delicate petals layered around a frilly center, each petal looking as if painted on. So perfect.
